Smart homes are ever-changing and electric blinds are the new must-have appliance for making everyday tasks easier, helping to save you money on your energy bills and more.
But how do they function, and how does the charging process work?
Electrical blinds work by using an electrical motor that is powered by a rechargeable battery. This allows your blinds to move up and down as controlled by the remote control or pre-set automation. Charging electrical blinds might seem like a chore at first, but it’s actually very quick and simple to do – all you need is your blind, a charging wire and access to mains electricity.
Unsure of how long your Smart blinds will last or want to get more information on the charging process? Here, we cover everything charging-related to make sure you’re getting the most from your battery-operated blinds.
Battery-operated blinds will at some point need to be recharged – but how long can you expect them to last? The answer is of course dependent on the usage and if you use them more, you will have to recharge them more frequently.
We expect a full charge to last roughly 8 – 12 months so you can be safe in the knowledge that you won’t have to recharge them more than twice per year. This is based on regular usage of one up and down cycle per day. When you consider that it only takes 5 hours to achieve a full charge, this amounts to 5 – 10 hours of charging every year. When your blinds arrive, they will come with at least 3 months of charge to get you started.
Charging motorised blinds is quick and simple and can be achieved without moving your blinds from their location. Upon arrival, it’s recommended that you top up your motor for another 3 – 5 hours before installing. When ready, locate the charging port on the motor, plug in the charger and then plug into the mains socket (do not plug into the mains first). Our charging cable is 2 metres in length and if your socket is further away than this, an extension cable will need to be used.
When charged, the LED indicator will turn from red to green. You should then disconnect the charger in the reverse order of how you attached it – unplug the mains then unplug from the blind motor. Your blinds are now ready for use.
We recommend treating your Smart Blinds like you would a mobile phone – charging them overnight or during the day for 4 – 6 hours. By charging blinds in this way, you can still use them when you need to with minimum disruption to your home.
All of our electric blinds can be controlled using a remote control, which is also powered by a long-life rechargeable battery. This battery is long-lasting and will only require charging once every 3 – 5 years depending on usage. This remote control can then be used to operate multiple blinds and can control individually or collectively.
You will use your remote control less if you choose to control your battery-operated blinds with either a mobile app or virtual assistant, such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa. By connecting your smart blinds to a smart home device, you can control your electric blinds using voice automated commands or pre-set automation.
Smart Blinds have an extensive range of electric blinds that can help make the operation of your home blinds as simple as possible. We believe in making your home as easy as possible to control and have created blinds that are easy to adjust, increasing the comfort of your home.
Our electric blinds can be operated by remote control or mobile app or can be linked with virtual assistant technology such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa by adding the TaHoma hub. This allows you to completely personalise your blind automation and enables your blinds to open and close at pre-set times when needed.
